About Us
Friends of Battlefield Park Foundation, Inc. is a 501(3)(3) nonprofit organization that understands the role city parks play in increasing community engagement, reducing crime, and improving health and wellness. The organization's mission is to use the collective energy, efforts, and talents of the people who use and love historic Battlefield Park and the Dorothy Vest Tennis Center to revitalize the park and the surrounding neighborhood.
Historic Preservation
Friends of Battlefield Park Foundation seeks to protect and preserve the Civil War and Civil Rights history of the park by becoming a recognized historic site through partnerships with the American Battlefields Protection Program, the state historic preservation office, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, and grants from the National Historic Preservation Act of 1996.
Sports and Recreation
Friends of Battlefield Park Foundation desires to move forward with state of the art tennis facilities capable of hosting USTA tournaments, which can bring economic development into the region. Expansion and modernization of the structures and athletic fields is important to the community.
Creating Community
